You can now download Spotify in India. With revealing its price, the app is now available on Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Microsoft Store. The leading music streaming service has been launched in the country on February 26, 2019. You can go for Spotify Premium which costs Rs 119 per month.
There is a free version to download for all mobile platforms – Android, iPhone, or Windows. As the app is newly launched in India, Spotify is giving Indian users an extended array of features that are generally not available for the international users on the free tier like limited song skips and no individual song selection. That may change in the future.

As of now, Spotify premium is only available on the Android platform. It will be released at a later stage for Android and iOS users. However, you can still play whatever music you please on any of your phones. The apps on all the OS are working absolutely fine in India, officially. After login-in, Spotify asks you to choose music you like to make its algorithm understand and deliver better recommendations.
The free version is working perfectly on all devices. But, as of writing this, Spotify premium subscription gives error saying “Spotify is currently not available in your country”. In order to fix the error, you need to tap on Get Premium in Spotify, then tap the profile icon at the top and choose Try Premium Free.
Since the app refresh in April 2018, Spotify has customized its browse section aka “Search”. It has been done to suit the Indian taste. Sections like Bollywood, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu music have been place upfront along with genres and collections such as pop, romance, party, hip-hop, R&B, K-Pop, reggae, workout, chill, focus, sleep, summer, dinner, jazz, gaming, soul, classical, latin, metal, kids, blues, funk, punk, travel, comedy, country, and folk & acoustic among others.
You can also access the podcasts through Spotify. The music you like, by clicking on the Heart icon, will appear in ‘Your Library’ section of the Spotify app. From there, you can sort music as per your requirement such as playlists, artists, albums, and podcasts. Also, you are provided with an option to create your own playlists. The Spotify app will also provide recommendations for your playlists based on the title you enter/choose.
If you don’t know, Spotify Premium in India starts at Rs 119 per month, you can also purchase one day, seven days, and one, three, and six months of Spotify subscription for Rs 13, Rs 39, Rs 129, Rs 389, and Rs 719, respectively. It puts the new app in the market on part with Apple Music. If you like this music application, then you can go straight for one year of Spotify for Rs 1189.
Moreover, Spotify student membership is half of its regular price. But, there isn’t a Spotify Family subscription plan available as of now. Apple is the only one that provides family subscription among all the big names such as – JioSaavn, Gaana, Google Play Music, and Amazon Music.
